We tried to do ‘meat-free Mondays’ a few months ago. It didn’t work out too well. Mostly because I have a massive day at work on Mondays, and dinner is usually the simplest, most basic of meals so that it doesn’t take too long. Chile con carne is a good example. I don’t even have to cut anything up, and it takes about half an hour. Other examples are meat and steamed vege, fish and steamed vege, you name it with steamed vege or salad. Nothing exciting or fancy.
But I did like the idea of ‘meat-free Mondays’. I just need to change it into ‘meat-free convenient day of the week’. So I did.
Last week it was Thursday, and we finally tried some of the Sanitarium Casserole Mince that comes in a tin. Not surprisingly, I made Chile con carne with it! Same ingredients as usual, I just substituted the casserole mince for the normal beef mince that I use. Amazingly, it was edible! We’d never tried the vegetarian ‘not meat’ products before and even though I still don’t know what it was that we were eating, it was quite pleasant!
I think that there are another five or six different tins to try so there could be some more interesting meals gracing our table over the next few months. I’m not sure if I can handle vegetarian sausages yet, but we shall see.
